Dear Editor: On behalf of the Sitka Tsunamis wrestling club, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who made our recent fundraiser at the Elks Lodge such a success.
A special thank you to the Elks Lodge for hosting us, and to the talented Lone Indian cooking crew – Mike Howard, Pamela Young, Lolly Miller and Kadin Davis – who fed us beautifully throughout the evening. Jon Shennett Jr. coordinated the evening on the Elks’ behalf, and Randy Keaveny lent invaluable help in the kitchen. We are also deeply grateful to Sitka Sound Seafoods for generously donating the rockfish, and to Northern Sales for donating the french fries. This event could not have happened without their support.
The evening featured both a live dessert auction and a silent auction, and the response from our community was overwhelming. We are grateful to the following local businesses for donating items that made the silent auction possible: Three Sisters Ocean Expeditions, Sea Piper Tours, Alaska Computer Center, Harry Race Printing, Fate Accompli, Mean Queen, Iris Addie Designs, Sugar Chic, Cold Water Bar and Grill, Finn Alley Abodes, Flipside Arcade, Woven in the Waves, Delta Western, Even Keel Bookkeeping, Melanie Anne Photography, Ace Hardware, Resurface Studio, K+E, Cove Creations, Theobroma, Russian America Store, Alaskan Adornment, and Alaska Pure Salt.
Together, these contributions helped raise over $10,000 for the club – funds that will go directly toward supporting a long wrestling tradition in Sitka, covering facility rental costs and, with any luck, putting the club closer to a new set of mats.
We are also grateful to Dave Miller for serving as emcee and keeping the evening lively and moving.
The Tsunamis are a community program, and evenings like this one remind us just how much this community shows up for its kids. Thank you, Sitka.
