Dear Editor: I recently participated in a handgun class with Chad and Kelly Goeden through Premier Training of Alaska at the Sitka Sportsman Association.
We live in a community where many – I would venture to say most! – households have firearms whether for hunting, self-defense, target shooting, or collecting. Even if you have exactly zero interest in owning your own gun, the reality is that you or your kids will inevitably be in someone’s home where there are firearms.
While some people focus on the fact that we have a right to own firearms, that right has accompanying responsibilities. We each have a responsibility to learn about secure storage and safe handling of firearms. Education enhances safety. The class included people from a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. Whether you are seasoned or as new as I was, this class is excellent.
