Henrietta Marilyn Haberman
Henrietta Marilyn Haberman was called to glory March 4, 2024, in Juneau.
She was born, along with her twin brother Henry, on March 29, 1939, in Wrangell, the daughter of Elizabeth (Nelson) and Henry Katasse Sr. Her Tlingit name was Shuts Koon, and she was a Raven, from the Tsaagweidi and Taak Wan Eidi tribe.
Cat, as she was nicknamed, grew up in Wrangell and Petersburg, lived in Juneau and Washington, and in Sitka from the early 1960s until 2015.
After having eight children, Henrietta was determined to finish high school, and in 1974 she received her State of Alaska high school diploma. Later on she studied to be a Certified Nurses Aide.
She worked as a waitress in several Sitka restaurants.
Henrietta was a member of Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4. She served as a delegate, councilwoman, sergeant at arms, and volunteered for many events.
She was a lifelong Commissioned Officer and member of the Salvation Army Corps. She was in Home League, was the Cradle Roll sergeant, the League of Mercy, and a delegate. She also volunteered for the Sitka community Thanksgiving dinners.
She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Elizabeth Katasse Sr.; sister Grace K. Larsen; brother Henry Katasse Jr.; five infant siblings; daughter Ramona McVay; grandchildren Bradley, Melissa and Tami; and a twin great-grandson Christopher.
She also was preceded in death by former husbands Wilson N. Nicklie, Theodore Abbott, Franklin James and Charles Haberman.
She is survived by her sister Mary Katasse-Miller; brothers Irving, Garfield, John, James, Charles and Jeffrey Katasse; her children Wilson Nicklie, Tim, Shane, twin daughters Janice and Janet, Betty and Chloe; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to deeply thank the staff at Wildflower Court, friends and family and extended family. A celebration of her life will be held at the Juneau Salvation Army, at a later date.
