Kruzof Island
Dear Editor: Do you care about Kruzof Island? On Wednesday, Jan. 16, 6:30 p.m., at Centennial Hall, Sitkans have the opportunity to weigh in on the future of Kruzof Island. This is our opportunity to share ideas with the Sitka Ranger District on how the public lands on Kruzof Island will be managed.
Unlike the typical public comment process, where we can provide input on specific project proposals, this meeting is unique in that it is a chance for us to inform planning efforts before specific planning has started. Ideas can span the range from motorized and non-motorized recreation, to restoration, to timber management, to others. This is a joint meeting convened by the Sitka Ranger District and the Sitka Collaborative Stewardship Group.
This is an opportunity to play an active part in public lands stewardship. Having more people involved in this process will lead to better and more-informed decisions about the future of our lands and community.

Basket of Thanks
Dear Editor: After several entries at several downtown stores I made a correct guess of the number of Christmas tree lights on the St Michael’s tree. After that my lucky name was drawn among several correct entries to win a basket full of downtown Sitka “enticements.” Ye’ah and yey!
Thank you to the Sitka Downtown Revitalization group for organizing the holiday contest. Thank you to the fabulous and generous and well-stocked and convenient and cheerful and helpful and great-to-have-right-here-in-town merchants and their amazing clerks.
John Stein, Sitka
