Police Blotter
Sitka police logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today:
January 9
Police received a number of complaints about vehicles blocking traffic or areas needing to be snowplowed.
A hit and run was reported on Vitskari Street.
A caller reported a traffic accident on Tuesday with more than $2,000 in damage.
At 1 p.m. a disturbance involving people yelling was reported on Harbor Mountain Road. After police arrived, a man and woman separated for the day. Police said the man had been drinking but was able to care for himself. Police received a second call about a half-hour later. The woman was given a disorderly conduct warning.
A standby was requested while a woman removed her belongings from a residence.
An ambulance was requested at 2:30 p.m.
A woman lost a key to her vehicle and the locksmith was unable to make a new one. The woman told officers the vehicle would be parked while she looked for the key.
At 5 p.m. a caller reported “activity” around a vehicle that appeared to be stuck in the snow on Lakeview Drive. The man believed to have been driving was warned not to drive because his license is revoked or suspended.
A man said he had been in a traffic accident recently. Officers filled out an accident report for him.
At 8 p.m. a caller reported suspicious persons in Swan Lake Terrace. Officers said they would conduct extra patrols of the premises.
At 8:30 p.m. a caller asked for the number for a tow company because she was stuck in a snow pile at the skate park. She called back after she was unable to reach a tow company. Police helped her with her vehicle and shoveling of snow so she could move.
At 10:53 p.m. a Lincoln Street resident reported an unknown and intoxicated man had tumbled into the front entry of his house, fallen to the floor and was breathing heavily as if he’d been running from something. He didn’t have permission to be in the residence, and was taken to the police station where a breath test showed a reading of .284. Officers took him to the hospital. The resident didn’t want to press charges for trespass.
