Emissions Report
Dear Editor: We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the community of Sitka for commenting on the draft greenhouse gas emissions inventory. As part of the Sitka Community Renewable Energy Strategy, a City and Borough of Sitka project, this report is intended to outline how energy is currentlyJ used in Sitka and where it comes from to the best ability of available data.
Saying that Sitka is a unique community is an understatement and that has made this inventory an exciting learning experience for us, the technical team, many of whom are outside energy experts. With this inventory, we aim to combine scientific tools with the lived experiences of local Sitka experts; an effort that is as challenging as it is rewarding, nevertheless critical for the creation of a useful tool.
The detailed responses we received showed how involved and passionate Sitkans are about tracking their energy sources and how accurately capturing energy usage can guide community decisions as emerging technologies make Sitka’s renewable electricity more adaptable to what powers the community. This report is for you, and without your critique and knowledge from your irreplaceable connection to Sitka, we would not be able to refine, iterate, and create a useful tool for Sitkans to utilize in deciding their unique energy future independently. We look forward to revising and releasing an updated document that reflects your input soon!
