Police Blotter
Sitka police logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today:
January 16
At 7:56 a.m. a caller said a large steady flow of water appeared to be running under the road in the 1300 block of SMC and going into the drainage ditch. Dispatch contacted Public Works.
A caller said it appeared a burglar broke into the house he’s in the process of moving out of, on Sunset Drive.
A female black Lab found wandering in the 100 block of Lincoln was turned over to the ACO, who took it to the shelter.
A grocery store asked for a criminal trespass order against a female.
A caller said a Honda had been parked on her lot on Monastery Street since at least Sunday. Dispatch left a message for the registered owner.
An agency asked for a welfare check on an elderly man whose family was refusing contact. An officer spoke with the man, who appeared fine.
A store asked that a man be criminally trespassed.
A caller said a vehicle was parked in his driveway, and his cameras showed a tow truck appeared to have dropped it off. He said he’d contact the tow company.
At 4:39 p.m. a caller said a neighbor’s dogs were in the roadway on Versa Place, creating a hazard and causing problems for those trying to get up the hill. An officer found no dogs outside.
A caller said a man had been following and harassing him, and now was refusing to leave him alone in a store. Officers responded and the man agreed to leave. The caller was advised of his options.
At 8:52 p.m. a caller asked that a vehicle owner be notified not to park on the caller’s property. Dispatch left voicemail for the owner, who said her granddaughter was visiting a friend in the area and would be told not to park there.
January 17
At 12:21 a.m. a caller on Lance Drive said noise from a neighbor’s apartment was keeping her and her children awake. Officers contacted a woman who was having a get-together and advised her of the complaint.
At 12:35 a.m. a caller on Lake Street said neighbors were being loud and preventing sleep. She said she’d tried knocking on the neighbor’s door before calling police but they refused to answer. The tenants also refused to open the door or speak with officers. Police left a message on the manager’s cell phone.
At 2:33 a.m. a caller asked for help removing two women from her home. Officers spoke with all parties and gave the caller’s aunt a disorderly conduct warning and a ride to her home.
In Court
Garrett Allen Smith, 49, was found guilty of violating a protective order. He was sentenced to 90 days with 70 suspended and placed on probation for two years. Probation was modified after he was found to have violated conditions of probation. He was ordered to serve 10 days immediately, consecutive to the previous sentence. All remaining suspended time was revoked and resuspended.
