In Response
Dear Editor: Thank you for the thoughtful, well-written, powerful letter to the editor by Connie LaPerriere, Jan. 17, 2017. I am one who has felt silenced, paralyzed, disenfranchised on so many issues. Alone. Thanks for the inspiration to dare to try to be engaged – with others on matters that matter.

Generous Donation
Dear Editor: Brave Heart Volunteers thanks the Hames Corporation and Hames family for the generous donation of $5,000 in Sea Mart credit for the 2017 year. This donation alone will allow us to provide meals and refreshments for educational events, grief support groups, volunteer appreciation dinners and many other events for the entire year. It is a gift to be able to offer food as a source of comfort for our community members seeking support at some of the most challenging times in their lives.
We thank Roger and Mary Hames for a donation of $2,500 and Barbara Hames for a $2,500 donation on behalf of the Lloyd F. Hames Credit Shelter Trust. This additional donation of $5,000 is critical to our volunteer program which provides volunteers to our community members who are in need of companionship, for caregivers in need of respite and for families with loved ones facing end of life. These funds directly support all bereavement programming which includes our NorthStar Grief Support Group, held twice a year, and individual and family grief support offered throughout the year. These funds allow Brave Heart Volunteers to provide frequent educational events for community members and educational resources for families and caregivers year round.

Trump Inauguration
Dear Editor: I can’t decide whether to watch Trump’s inauguration or binge-watch South Park. I am leaning toward binge-watching South Park.
However, I love oxymorons and Trump’s acceptance speech, with all his braggadocio, is bound to have a couple. A month ago he said we will have ‘‘unbelievable military intelligence.’’ I have seen ‘‘military intelligence’’ offered as an oxymoron all by itself but then, he’s always doubling down on things, huh?
Yesterday he coined a new one. The most recent criticisms against him are ‘‘made-up facts.’’ He tweeted this, we have it in cyberspace forever. (That’s what he does, isn’t it? – make up facts?)
During the campaign I caught him in an oxymoronic sentiment, if I may coin a phrase. He said, ‘‘I can be magnanimus if I have to be.’’
Given his contrariness, I think it’s going to be a good four years for oxymorons. However, I’m afraid it’s going to be a bumpy ride. Stock up on ammo and canned goods and buckle up.
