January 18, 2022, Police Blotter

Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today:

 

January 14

At 6:25 a.m. a caller said a man was in her driveway and she didn’t want him there. Officers investigated and found nothing amiss. They advised her of her options.

At 12:38 p.m. a downtown store reported a theft wherein customers had tasted some food, said they didn’t like it and thrown it away. The store declined to press charges.

At 1:35 p.m. a caller said 20 headstones had been vandalized at the Russian Cemetery.

A green wallet with cash in it was found on Jeff Davis Street.

At 4:39 p.m. a hiker age 18 or 19 was reported missing at the Herring Cove trailhead. Search and Rescue was called.

A generator was reported stolen off a boat at Crescent Harbor.

 

January 15

At 5:56 a.m. a minor consuming case was reported. Troopers issued a citation.

At 3:50 p.m. a person was reported to have fallen out of a vehicle on Indian River Road. The vehicle was gone when officers arrived.

A DeGroff Street resident reported being out of town and returning to find the doorknob out of the door and lying in front of it.

At 10:25 p.m. a caller reported a vehicle upside down at Blue Lake Road and SMC. No injuries or damage were resulted, the caller said.

A noise complaint came in from Lillian Drive at 11:26 p.m.

 

January 16

At 12:43 p.m. a security check was made at a downtown bar.

At 1:36 a.m. citizen contact was made at the Castle Hill parking lot.

January 17

Citizen contact was made at 1:25 a.m. in the 800 block of HPR; at 1:47 a.m. at Harbor Mountain Road and HPR; and at 1:17 a.m. in the 600 block of Katlian.

At 4 p.m. a purse was turned in from the Castle Hill Parking lot. It was returned to the owner.

At 4:46 p.m. a set of three keys were turned in to police and placed in the property drawn, pending pickup.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received seven medical calls on Friday; three on Saturday; six on Sunday; and eight on Monday.

The fire hall responded to a report of a sparking transformer on Katlian Street Friday morning. Electrical Department staff addressed the issue. No damage was reported.

At 1:30 p.m. Friday a fire department vehicle was sent to 2309 HPR to respond to a report of an oil sheen on the road. No additional help was needed.

At 5:11 p.m. Friday the police department received a 911 call about two overdue hikers on the Herring Cove trail. The report was passed on to troopers who alerted the fire hall Sitka Mountain Rescue team. Teams were dispatched up Herring Cove trail and Blue Lake Road. While the search was under way, a good Samaritan passed the two hikers, walked out with them and gave them a ride to the fire hall shortly after 6 p.m., a Sitka Mountain Rescue volunteer said.

A vehicle driving on the 3700 block of Halibut Point Road flipped on ice Monday. EMS and fire personnel responded. The driver was uninjured.

 

Sitka Police

Shawn Beauchamp, 25, was charged Friday with assault in the fourth degree and violating probation.

 

Emily Pack, 45, was charged Sunday with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence; and resisting arrest.
