Police Blotter
Sitka police logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today:
January 21
At 8:14 a.m. a caller said a man slipped on the ice in the 600 block of Lincoln Street and was bleeding from the back of his head.
At 8:23 a.m. black smoke was seen coming from a chimney on Wortman Loop. No one answered when a neighbor knocked on the door. The fire chief and an officer responded, cleared out the smoke, and shut off the furnace.
At 9:50 a.m. a 911 caller said an intoxicated man and woman were refusing to leave an Indian River property, and the man becoming aggressive. Both were given warnings.
A man was cited at Starrigavan for open container.
At 1:22 p.m. a 911 caller said a boat trailer was becoming detached from a vehicle on O’Connell Bridge. It was gone when officers arrived.
A man was taken to the hospital after talking of harming himself.
At 5:30 p.m. a caller said a van arrived on DeGroff Street and a tall, thin man got out and walked away.
January 22
At 12:18 a.m. a caller said a man beat on a vehicle window and acting aggressive. There was no evidence of a crime when police arrived.
In Court
Matthew J. Konoske, 55, was sentenced to 15 days, suspended, on a charge of criminal mischief in the fourth degree. He is to pay restitution and not have contact with a specific person. He will be on probation for two years and is to complete treatment.
Gus W. Nelson, 28, was sentenced to 18 months, with 15 suspended, on a charge of theft in the second degree. He is to pay restitution and not have contact with a specific store or person. He will be on probation for three years, and must follow a number of conditions related to credit cards and other access devices.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received requests for ambulances at 8:13 a.m., 11:04 a.m., 3:06 p.m., 3:41 p.m. Tuesday, and 12:45 a.m. today.
At 5:37 p.m. Tuesday a fire truck was sent to 200 Flume Circle after burned food set off the detector.
