Hate Talk
Dear Editor: I would like to comment on the news about these kids making fun of that Indian guy singing and beating the drum.
First, there were the chaperones for the Catholic kids. Don’t the kids learn that Jesus loves us all?
Second, I am a Tlingit Indian and I don’t appreciate people making fun of us. The Indians were the very first people in the land down south and the Natives lived here forever.
I never heard of the Indian people made fun of before. That makes me angry. It looks just as bad as President Trump referring to the Mexicans among the caravan as those Brown People. How hateful. I imagine there’s a lot of angry Indians all over.
That’s my opinion.

Shee Atika Meetings
Dear Editor: Prior to their most recent financial difficulties, Shee Atika board and staff met regularly with the Sitka shareholders. There were information meetings, the annual meeting in May and a Christmas party.
Since May 2017, there have been no meetings with Sitka shareholders and none scheduled. Instead, Shee Atika has decided to move the 2019 annual meeting to Anchorage after hosting a sparsely attended 2018 annual meeting in Juneau.
The Shee Atika board changed by-laws forbidding Shee Atika shareholders to host meetings unless it is an officially sanctioned event. The rapidly declining financial health of Shee Atika does indicate possible reasons for avoiding the Sitka shareholders who hold the greatest numbers of shares in Shee Atika.
It is time to hold the Shee Atika board accountable. It’s unlikely they will move the annual meeting, but we can request an information meeting in Sitka. The Shee Atika Board members are in Sitka this weekend, and may be contacted at info@sheeatika.com or 747-3534.
