Police Blotter
The following calls were logged before 8 a.m. today:
January 23
An officer helped a resident regarding a phone scam in which money had been sent via USPS.
At 11:36 a.m. a possible bomb threat was reported at Sitka High. The school was evacuated and searched. Police said later the call, which came from Jamaica, was a hoax. (See story, page 1 of Wednesday’s Sentinel.)
At 12:51 p.m. a man was reported lying in front of the Crescent Harbor restroom struggling to breathe. He was taken to a hospital.
A citation was issued after a driver backed into another car at Sea Mart.
A flip phone and a beaded key chain with two keys were reported lost.
At 8:38 p.m. a caller said a man was harassing a customer at a store in the 700 block of HPR.
A woman said her daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend were arguing and it had gotten physical. The two left separately on foot before police arrived.
At 10:12 p.m. a caller said a man in a trench jacket had started yelling at him then chased him, in the 500 block of Lincoln Street. Officers found the man was no longer chasing the caller, and was able to care for himself.
At 11:42 p.m. a caller on Vitskari Street said two people with flashlights were looking outside a home. Officers found the two were the home owner and a friend, both wearing headlamps,
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received amblance calls at 11:41 .m., 12:52 p.m. and 6;30 p.m. Wednesday.
At 11:36 a.m. Wednesday a truck was sent to Sitka High where a bomb threat had been called in. It was a hoax.
At 2:39 p.m. Wednesday a truck was sent to 802 SMC where a Christmas tree had caught fire at the recycle center. It was out before the truck arrived.
