January 24, 2022, Police Blotter

Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

January 21

At 10:47 a.m. a culvert was reported flooding at 700 A Street.

A theft was reported at Eliason Harbor.

At 4:11 p.m. a creek was reported overflowing into the road at Monastery and First streets and at 4:45 p.m. water was reported flowing from a building in the 200 block of Lincoln Street. Public Works was notified.

At 6:21 p.m. a small landslide was reported on SMC at Whale Park.

At 6:54 p.m. a downtown merchant reported flooding at several stores.

At 7:53 p.m. a drain was reported leaking on property in the 100 block of Wolff Drive. Public Works was notified.

At 8:31 p.m. a drain was reported overflowing in the 200 block of Marine Street. Public Works was notified.

At 9:48 p.m. a caller asked that an intoxicated person be removed from the home. The person was taken to the hospital.

At 10:42 p.m. what was described as a boulder the size of a car had landed in the road at GPIP, blocking the road. A DOT crew, using a front-end loader, removed it.

January 22

At 7:23 a.m. a road was reported washing out on Georgeson Loop, but the caller phoned back soon afterward to say the blockage was “unplugged.”

An intoxicated man on Katlian was found to be able to care for himself.

At 10:09 a.m. a caller said drains were plugged at Verstovia Avenue and Sirstad Street. Public Works was notified.

At 8:21 p.m. Halibut Point Road Rec Area structures were reported on fire. See story on page 1.

January 23

At 12:46 a.m. a man under the influence was reported sleeping in his car under the bridge. He was told to leave, but not drive.

A woman reported a man had violated a violence protection order.

January 24

At 2:44 p.m. an orange and white cat was reported struck and killed in the 800 block of HPR. The animal control officer picked up the remains.

At 3:09 a.m. a caller at Haven Lane and HPR complained a dog had been barking for some time. Officers were unable to locate the dog.

At 5:20 a.m. a foot patrol was conducted at the airport.

 

Sitka Police

Charline Skultka, 24, was charged Friday with driving with a revoked license.

Patrick Bean Jr., 45, was charged Friday with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.

 

Coast Guard

A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter crew medevacked a premature infant and its mother Sunday night from Klawock.

The helicopter left Sitka in heavy fog at 9:45 p.m., arrived at the Craig helipad around 11:30 p.m. and returned to Sitka by 1 a.m. today.

 

Emergency Calls

Ambulances were dispatched 12:19 p.m., 3:44 p.m. and 10:10 p.m. Friday; 7:47 a.m., 9:50 a.m. and 11:39 p.m. Saturday; 12:47 a.m. and 2:05 p.m. Sunday; and 1:04, 5:26 and 6:31 a.m. today.

At 7:58 p.m. Friday a fire truck was sent to Blatchley on a false alarm. 

At 10:15 p.m. Friday a fire truck was sent to 4802 HPR on a false alarm.

At 8:24 p.m. Saturday a fire truck was sent to the Halibut Point Recreation Area on a report of a fire (see story). The truck was back at 10 p.m.
