January 3, 2014 Letters to the Editor

Library Volunteers
Dear Editor: In the same vein as many letters that have come your way recently, it goes without saying that Kettleson Memorial Library owes huge thanks to the volunteers who regularly offer their services to the library, Bobbie Sherrod, Joyce Pearson, Linda Schmidt and Dee Ingwerson, as well as all the people who give presentations at the library, and to those who help move furniture and provide refreshments and Mike Litman who helped hang our projection screen. We also have a devoted group of Library Friends who have worked tirelessly to raise funds for the library expansion project.
Most recently, Judy Johnstone approached us about providing Norwegian krumkake for library patrons on Christmas Eve afternoon. Judy showed up with a big tin of handmade wafer cones and creamy filling. We festively decorated the library office and each patron who came to the library was invited by Judy’s granddaughter, Rita, to come into the office for some coffee and a freshly filled krumkake. In fact, if the office wasn’t full of happy eaters, Rita took matter in hand, by taking krumkake out to potential customers urging them to partake of additional repast in the office.
We were able to serve many of our regular patrons as well as visitors like a young woman who was a library archivist new to Sitka.
Thanks to all of those people who graciously donate time, energy, materials and ideas to make the library a vibrant and welcoming part of the community.
Sarah Bell,
Kettleson Memorial Library
