Tales of Tails
Dear Editor: We want to thank everyone who took part in and supported “Tales of Tails: Stories of Cuteness, Chaos & Connection,” a live storytelling event in support of the Friends of the Sitka Animal Shelter.
A huge shout out to all our story tellers for bringing Sitka Tells Tales to life in person and on the radio, with seven true stories from zoo keepers, dog mushers and pet lovers. True tales of encounters with wild creatures and deep connections with turtles and other critters. Thanks Kh’asheechtlaa Louise Brady with Tory O’Connell Curran and Matt Jackson, Johnny Elliot, Janet Clarke, Kari Paustian, Mischa Lopiano, April Wheldon and Emily Pound. Thanks to Harbor Mountain Brewery and Campfire Kitchen for making food, beverage and this space available to us and for and donating $1 per beer and pizza to Friends of Sitka Animal Shelter.
Appreciation to the Daily Sitka Sentinel for helping us get the word out, our timer and invaluable story coach Rachel Thompson, photographers Micha Lopiano and Zach Miller, Ellie Lo Rae for her help, Jacyn Schmidt, John Herchenrider, Jeanne Stolberg and Becky Meier for technical support. We appreciate the listeners tuning and streaming KCAW Raven Radio and the enthusiastic live audience!
The event was a great way to bring together Sitka’s community of pet owners and animal lovers and to celebrate our furry companions that bring us so much joy. To learn more about Friends of Sitka Animal Shelter or to get involved please email sitkaanimalfriends@gmail.com or visit our website at www.sitkaanimalfriends.org. We’re always looking for more volunteers, more foster families, more people to adopt, and more people to join our pet loving community!
You can hear Sitka Tells Tales on KCAW Raven Radio the third Tuesday of the month, either a show from the vault or a live event. Our next live event, in March, is in the works, but we’re thinking of a theme along the lines of “It was a dream:” stories of visions, longings, imaginings and seeing what comes true. If you have an idea for a theme, feedback or want to tell a story, please contact us at artchangeinc@gmail.com. Look for Sitka Tells Tales at www.artchangeinc.com or wherever you listen to podcasts.
