Trump Presidency
Dear Editor: Since the start of the second Trump Presidency I have been calling and emailing my senators and representative on a daily basis. Wildly frustrating to see the total lack of respect for our system of government played out every day and the real impacts to people ignored. I guess the point is to bury us in catastrophe so we cannot keep up.
I urge people to stay engaged and contact your D.C. representatives, do not give them a pass on the impacts of this chaos on Alaska. Thankful that on some issues Senator Murkowski is willing to stand up against this nonsense.
Senator Dan Sullivan (202) 224-3004
Senator Lisa Murkowski (202) 224-6665
Representative Nick Begich (202) 225-5765
White House (202) 456-1111
Although this doesnʼt cover many of the most important issues here is my email message to Senator Sullivan sent today:
Good Morning Senator Sullivan,
I am appalled looking at the chaos happening in D.C. with the Trump Administration. Too many horrors to mention here so will mention two for today: Today David Lebryk resigned at the Department of Treasury. Read the Anchorage Daily News article. “The highest-ranking career official at the Treasury Department is departing after a clash with allies of billionaire Elon Musk over access to sensitive payment systems.” So an unelected bully with huge conflicts of interests is allowed to bully a critically important career public servant out of office. Is America Great yet? What a disgrace. Where is your outrage? How many career civil servants work in Alaska? Do your job and stand up against this assault on our mechanisms of government and our people. On a second note your back and forth with Lutnick during his confirmation hearing for Commerce Commissioner about “freedom” fish doesnʼt give this commercial fishing family much hope that commercial fisheries and appropriate resource management will be forefront in his mind. He sounds like just another ultra rich white guy that wants to come sport fishing in Alaska. Where were the important statistics about the value of commercial fisheries in your discussion? Nowhere that I heard. This is exhausting. We now have a government peppered with billionaires with little direct experience and, yes, men that wouldnʼt uphold our Constitution if Trump said not to. Deeply concerning watching this unfold here from Alaska. Do not vote for Kennedy, Gabbard or Patel. This shouldnʼt be hard, they are grossly unqualified.
Thank you.
