SAFV Holiday Season
Dear Editor: Sitkans Against Family Violence’s Children’s Program would like to express our gratitude to all the businesses and individuals who contributed to making SAFV’s annual holiday party and holiday season a success!
For their delicious food donations for our party, we would like to thank our board members Dave, Sarah, Maite, and Kathy, as well as Amy Sweeney and her Blatchley students. We’d also like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Bayview Restaurant and Pub, the Larkspur Café, Sea Mart Quality Foods, AC Lakeside and Subway. In addition, we’d like to thank the SAFV staff members and residents who helped prepare our holiday feast, including Megan, Vicki and Stephanie. Feeding over 50 people only happened with the kindness of the community.
For their large food donations during the holiday season, we would like to thank the U.S. Coast Guard for their canned food drive as well as the Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team Sitka’s fully prepared Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. We also would like to thank the Alaska Longline Fishermen’s Association for their wonderful fish donation.
We greatly appreciate the presents from all who generously donated to the Methodist Church Giving Tree and the Coast Guard Angel Tree. We’d like to thank the Sitka Conservation Society’s 4H Club for their kind holiday greeting cards and ornaments as well as Harry Race and True Value for the gifts, wrapping paper and decorations. In addition, we’d like to thank the Today Show Toy Drive, the City of Sitka finance department and the American Legion Auxiliary for the incredibly generous donation of gifts. Without them, we would not have had so many wonderful presents to distribute to families for their holiday season.
Thank you to Michael LaGuire and St. Gregory’s for the beautiful Christmas tree, and to St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church for allowing us to use their beautiful location to host our party.
Thank you to Dave Nuetzel for being our Santa, Claire Sanchez for being our Mrs. Claus and Caitlin Lavorgna for being Santa’s Helper.
Finally, thank you to all those who helped out with the party including SAFV staff Vicki, Michelle, Karin, Megan and Stephanie. Also, thank you to our wonderful volunteers for all their hard work during and after the party including the Mt. Edgecumbe High School students and staff, as well as Jesuit Volunteer Molly.
The Sitka community was truly generous this holiday season. Thank you all for your support of SAFV and the families we work with!
