Police Blotter
Sitka police logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today:
January 3
At 5:12 a.m. two ATVs were reported on Granite Creek Road. An officer contacted with two juveniles.
At 6 p.m. a caller said a man at their front doors with a petition to sign was refusing to leave. Officers gave him a verbal trespass notice to stay away from two grocery stores and a liquor store for six months.
A downtown business asked for a trespass order against a man.
At 6:49 p.m. a library caller said an intoxicated man was bothering people, apparently upset because staff didn’t know what he wanted. He requested a taxi and went outside to wait.
At 8:19 p.m. a caller said a neighbor had asked her to call the police because a relative was “acting up.”
Officers determined it was a non-criminal family disturbance.
At 11:49 p.m. a caller said two individuals were shouting obscenities at each other at SMC apartments. Officers determined that one man had fallen onto the ground and couldn’t get up due to his level of intoxication. He was taken to a hospital.
January 4
At 4:17 a.m. a caller from out of the state said her mother’s glucose alarm went off and she’d tried calling her several times but got no answer. Officers found the mother was sleeping and didn’t need medical attention nor police assistance.
At 4:26 a.m. a caller said her son had left home around 11 p.m. the night before to visit a friend and hadn’t returned. At 7:40 a.m. he was found alive and well.
At 7:21 a.m. a caller who’s out of town said she’d been told someone was breaking into her house at different times, and the night before had had a party. Officers made contact with a man in the residence.
A caller said her ex won’t give her their child as per a court custody order. Officers advised her of her options.
At 5:33 p.m. a caller said a juvenile had just come to her house after being assaulted by an intoxicated man on Lake Street. Officers talked to the juvenile, who said the man pushed him but didn’t cause pain. The juvenile was taken home and officers talked to the man who denied making contact with anyone while walking.
At 6:10 p.m. officers made contact with two persons by Centennial Hall, with an open container nearby that no one claimed. The contents were poured out.
At 7 p.m. a caller said a parked vehicle in the 2300 block of SMC posed a traffic hazard. Officers asked owners of two vehicles to move them.
A man who had fallen on ice while walking his dog on Peterson Street said he needed help. He was taken to the hospital.
At 8:43 p.m. a caller said he’d entered what was supposed to be an empty building on Siginaka Way and thought he heard noise, possibly made by intruders. Officers found no one.
A caller requested EMS for a friend having an asthma attack. He was taken to the hospital.
January 5
At 2:50 a.m. a caller on Harbor Drive said he was cold and had no place to go. He was taken to the hospital.
At 2:52 a.m. a man said he was experiencing severe nausea and dizziness. He was taken to the hospital.
At 6 a.m. a man said he was having convulsions and tingling on his face. He was taken to the hospital.
A dog was left at the shelter along with a note saying the dog was being surrendered due to the owner’s losing his or her job. The note also said the dog was aggressive, and that volunteers at the shelter should be warned.
A commercial vessel dropped off logs at Starrigavan, dragged them across the road and blocked one of the ramps. Police documented the area.
At 10:10 a.m. a man in a Dalmatian-decorated robe was seen crossing the road, acting as though he’d been hit by cars, in the 1200 block of SMC. He was gone when police checked.
A TSA reported a 13-year-old had a plastic clip with BBs for his air gun in his carryon luggage. TSA was advised no action would be taken.
An ambulance was called for a woman who fell and hit her head.
At 2 p.m. a caller said an intoxicated man on Katlian Street had a “goose egg” on his head. The man said he wanted to go to the hospital, but not in an ambulance. He was given a ride.
A caller said a man was harassing him by honking whenever he sees him. Police advised the man of the complaint.
An ambulance was called for a toddler whose leg was injured by accident on a meat thermometer.
At 5 p.m. a man who’d been kicked off the ferry was reported causing problems at the terminal. The man said he’d used meth a few days earlier and has mental issues. He also said he hadn’t taken his medication for a month. Police saw no sign of a crime.
At 5:10 p.m. a rear-end collision was reported. A driver said another driver cut her off and she slammed on the brakes while turning from HPR onto Erler Street, causing another vehicle to rear-end her. No injuries resulted.
A puppy was seen in a crate, howling, on Peterson Street. Police tried to contact the resident.
A caller asked to talk to an officer about suspicious activity in the Biorka Street area the previous night.
January 6
At 1:36 a.m. a bartender said a man left his ID card at a bar, and mentioned he needed to get on a plane in the morning. The owner of the ID called at 5 a.m. and claimed his ID at the station.
Sitka Police
Gabrial K. Klushkan, 18, was charged Saturday evening with criminal trespass in the first degree and cited for minor consuming.
Amelia E. Merculief, 21, was cited Sunday for driving with a revoked license.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received six ambulance calls Friday, four Saturday and three Sunday.
At 9:30 a.m. Saturday the fire truck was sent to 411 Hollywood Way on a false alarm.
On Sunday, the fire hall was called around noon to help in the search for a missing hunter. (See story, Page 1.)
