Judson Roy Thomas passed into heaven in Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center in, Sitka, Alaska,
on May 4, 2026, following a long battle of illness.
Judson, Daak-kwill-Saak, Kaagwaantan Tlingit from the Royal Box House Kook Hit, was born January 8, 1941. He was the eldest living grandson of Paul J. and Catherine Simmons Liberty, and the son of William B. and Esther Liberty Thomas of Sitka.
He worked various jobs, including ones at Alaska Lumber & Pulp in Sitka, the Juneau Electrical Company, and the Powerhouse on Mt. Edgecumbe, and was a Pentecostal charismatic preacher in rural America. He was endowed with spiritual gifts.
Judson was a grateful soul who loved God, family, and friends. “Praise God”and “Hallelujah” were always quick on his tongue.
He is survived by loving wife, Nancy, from Sitka. He also is survived by stepsons Jeremiah, Robert, Steven, and Theo; stepdaughter Zipporah; son Marty Thomas; sister, Viola Thomas Woldhagen; brother Stacy R. Thomas; and many nieces and nephews.
Judson was preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Esther Liberty Thomas; brothers Gerald, Vernon, and Daniel; son, Judson Thomas Jr.; and nephew Daniel Couday. His sisters Ruby, Mildred Thomas Manship, and Lorraine Jane Thomas Strickler also greeted Judson in heaven.
A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
