Police Blotter
Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
July 9
At 8:52 a.m. a caller said a woman on a cruise ship had called a hotline the previous night threatening suicide. An officer spoke with a doctor who said a health professional was to be consulted and a decision made on what steps to take next.
At 10:26 a.m. a caller said a woman was on her cell phone at the post office parking lot getting ready to go onto SMC. The license plate showed the vehicle registered out of Valdez.
At 11:50 a.m. the Harbor Office said a man who had been acting oddly earlier was now lying on the grass in front of the office. An officer spoke with the man and said all appeared fine.
At 1:26 p.m. Sitka Fire Department asked an officer following an explosion on board a fishing vessel at Eliason transient dock. The officer found the explosion was from fireworks, and gave the boat owner a warning for setting off fireworks in city limits.
A caller said the Keet ball field equipment shed might have been broken into. Public Works will wait to see if anything was stolen. No damage was seen.
At 4:41 p.m. a caller said a man wasn’t “functioning properly” at the Mariners Wall and asked for EMS. He was taken to a hospital and a taxi was called for two persons on scene. An officer gave others on scene a warning for having open containers.
At 5:57 p.m. a caller said a man was sleeping in the forest trail behind Hames Center. An officer found he was able to care for himself.
At 8:16 p.m. a caller said a woman was on the ground in a parking lot off SMC. The woman was taken into protective custody due to the level of intoxication and inability to care for herself.
At 9:11 p.m. a caller said a tent was set up in the woods near his property in the 1300 block of SMC. He said he didn’t know who was using the tent, only that there was a lot of trash near and in it. Officers didn’t locate any occupants of the tent.
July 10
At 1 a.m. a caller reported a loud booming noise in the vicinity of Indian River Road. An officer was unable to locate the source of the noise.
At 1:29 a.m. a caller asked for assistance in escorting two women who were behaving erratically off the hospital premises on Gavan Street.
At 3:08 a.m. a caller said he saw two people who appeared to be engaging in intimate activities, on Eagle Way. Officers were unable to locate anyone in the area.
At 4:40 a.m. a caller said a man was talking with several people as they passed by him at Thomsen Harbor. Officers were advised.
At 5:45 a.m. officers found a purse containing ID and cash but were unable to find a number for the owner. The purse was placed in safekeeping.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 11:47 a.m., 4:44 p.m., 8:21 p.m. and 10:58 p.m. Tuesday, and 9:51 a.m. today.
