Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
July 8
At 7:17 a.m. littering caused by a bear was reported on Granite Creek Road.
At 9:41 p.m. a business in the 300 block of Seward Street reported people were sleeping in an alleyway, and asked for more police patrols.
At 10:30 a.m. three male juveniles were reported to have pushed a “No Wake” sign into the water. The sign was recovered.
An out-of-town caller asked for a welfare check on a man due to a conversation that had raised concern. The man declined assistance.
An intoxicated man was given a ride from Lake Street back to his hotel.
At 11:55 p.m. an out-of-town caller reported threatening phone calls from another out-of-town caller.
July 9
At 1:31 a.m. a downtown resident complained of noise apparently from the Pioneers Home property. Police found the noise was coming from a bar.
A cell phone found downtown was turned in to police.
At 10:25 a.m. a ball hitch was reported to have fallen off a truck on the O’Connell Bridge. It was picked up.
An iPhone found in the 2800 block of HPR was put in the police property drawer.
At 5:02 p.m. a caller reported finding a deceased whale. The call was referred to NOAA.
At 7:22 p.m. a dog in a truck was reported to have bitten a child in the 300 block of Lincoln Street. The animal control officer was notified.
At 10:18 p.m. a caller reported a person was sleeping in a vehicle at the airport parking lot. Officers found two people sleeping in the vehicle and advised them they were on city property and weren’t allowed to sleep there.
July 10
At 2:42 a.m. a caller complained of loud music in the 3200 block of HPR. Officers were advised.
At 2:55 a.m. an intoxicated person was reported in the Castle Hill parking lot. The person was gone when officers arrived.
At 10:33 a.m. a dog was reported barking on Cedar Beach Road. The animal control officer was advised.
At 10:47 a.m. a woman called from out of town to ask for a check on the welfare of a man she hadn’t heard from in a year. The man told officers he was fine.
A credit card was turned in to police.
At 6:55 p.m. a man was reported screaming in a vehicle on Monastery Street. Officers found nothing criminal.
At 9:51 p.m. a bear was reported eating garbage in the roadway on Lance Street. It was gone when officers arrived but was seen later on Molly Lane.
Sitka Police
Troy Mayer, 56, was charged Saturday with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.
Brita Campbell, 25, was charged with driving under the influence, fleeing the scene of an accident, failure to give immediate notice of accident and criminal mischief following a report at 6:38 p.m. Saturday of a hit and run on Lake Street.
Jordan D. Lewis, 29, was arrested on a bench warrant Sunday on a 2019 charge of driving under the influence.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ten ambulance calls and one false alarm fire call Friday; six ambulance calls Saturday; and one on Sunday.
At 6:58 p.m. Saturday a cat was reported stuck in a tree at 2005 SMC. A ladder truck responded and rescued the cat.
At 8:29 p.m. Sunday a tree was reported on fire on the side of the road at 608 O’Cain Street. A truck and six firefighters were sent to put out the fire. They returned to the station at 9:40 p.m. No cause of the fire was listed.
