Alaska Story Tellers

Dear Editor: On July 11, we enjoyed an extraordinary new entertainment attraction in Sitka: the history of Sitka told in music and dance and narrated by a mosquito! In 32 minutes we saw the eruption of Mt. Edgecumbe and were moved into the Native culture and toward the Russian exploration, the sea otter pelt harvest and the establishment of Russia’s American capital in Sitka; then we learned of Russia’s indebtedness which occasioned the U.S. purchase and development. The production ends with Elizabeth Peratrovich helping to instigate the FIRST of the U.S. civil rights laws. We hadn’t realized that Alaska LED THE WAY in establishing U.S. civil rights laws.

Nor had we realized that Alaska Story Tellers involved music and dance as well as VERY ACTIVE narration.  It’s a very lively and surprisingly comprehensive presentation for only 30 minutes.  Tourists – and locals too – will enjoy a much better understanding and appreciation for Sitka if they see this production. Performance times correspond with tour ship arrivals; check your computer for scheduling.
