48-Hour Thanks

Dear Editor: The 48-Hour Film Filmmakers Showcase was a big success, thanks to the diligence and creativity of amateur filmmakers, and the generosity of Artchange for allowing the Sitka Film Society to show samples of works in progress, “A Beautiful Place” by Atman Mehta and “Cruise Boom,” by Ellen Frankenstein and Mehta.

For the contest, six filmmaking teams created short films using three “prompts”: a baseball cap as a prop; a character named, “Jules Burns, life coach,” and a line of dialogue: “And all it took was a Fig Newton.” The film society wants to give a big shout-out to filmmakers for making the show possible, going out on a limb to show their works to the public.

The film society wants to give a big shout-out to filmmakers for making the show possible, going out on a limb to show their works to the public. We owe a huge thank you, as always, to our amazing partners at the Coliseum Theater – Scott Bowen and his faithful crew at the Coliseum Theater, who bend over backwards to ensure the Sitka Film Society can continue the 48-Hour film festival, and can present independent films in their wonderful theater.

Another thank you goes to a very supportive audience of Sitkans and visitors who turned out to see the amateur and professional works.

Thanks goes out as well to the Sentinel, KCAW-FM Raven Radio and businesses in Sitka for helping us get the word out about the contest and showcase events.
