Police Blotter
Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
July 15
A man sleeping on a bench near Swan Lake told officers he was waiting for a thrift store to open.
At 10:43 a.m. a caller said a tour bus stopped in the road to let tourists see the waterfall at Thimbleberry.
A caller said a man with a beard pulled in front of another driver, made an obscene gesture, slowed down, then sped up to 55 mph.
Police investigated a rear-end accident on SMC and issued citations.
A stalking order was reported violated at Centennial Hall.
An unresponsive man was taken from Eliason Harbor restrooms to the hospital.
Court staff said a woman and her son were becoming unruly. The man left the court room and the mother was talking to her attorney when police arrived, and no help was needed.
A terrier was found in a yard in the 2300 block of HPR.
A phone was found on the SJ lawn.
Prescription glasses were reported lost.
A jacket left at the playground was returned to the owner.
At 9:55 p.m. a caller said a man was driving a golf cart across HPR near Moller field. It was determined no laws had been broken.
A van with someone sleeping in it was reported parked at a grocery store. The owner was told to move it.
July 16
At 12:56 a.m. fireworks were reported on Lance Drive. Police found a fireworks box but no one in the area.
At 3:13 a.m. a 911 caller said his phone was stolen and he was tracking it on a GPS. The phone was left on the owner’s front porch.
Sitka Police
Kasper Kurtz, 21, was cited for driving in violation of an instruction permit, failing to have insurance proof and failing to avoid a collision.
In Court
David R. Evenson Jr., 40, was sentenced to 30 days, suspended, on a charge of violating a domestic violence protective order. He’ll be on probation a year and is to complete treatment.
Summer A. Travelstead, 21, was sentenced to 30 days, suspended, for resisting or interfering with an arrest. She is to complete treatment and will be on probation for a year.
Grand Jury
Ashley R. Grearson, 33, was indicted Thursday by a grand jury on a charge of escape in the third degree, The complaint said that on July 6 while she was still handcuffed after her arrest on a warrant she tried to run away from an officer. (She was also charged with the misdemeanors of resisting arrest, violating conditions of release, and assault in the fourth degree for allegedly assaulting a police officer during the arrest and causing injury by grabbing his testicles, the police complaint said.)
Zachary M. Ison, 32, was indicted by the grand jury on a charge of assault in the third degree. The complaint against him said that on July 3 Ison, when approached by officers following an incident in a store, had made comments to officers that “he would defend himself” and had at one point reached toward his waistband, where there was a loaded, cocked flare gun, police said. (He was also charged with the misdemeanors of resisting arrest, misconduct involving weapons in the fifth degree and disorderly conduct.)
Calvin W. Boord, 50, was indicted on a charge of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second degree, for allegedly possessing heroin on July 3. (He was also charged with the misdemeanor of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree for alleged possession of methamphetamine, the police complaint said.)

Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 11:40 a.m., 2:01 p.m., 4:01 p.m., 4:03 p.m., 4:20 p.m., 4:47 p.m. and 7:14 p.m. Monday.
