Sitka Police Department received the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
July 15
Citizen contact was made at a business in the 1300 block of SMC.
At 10 a.m. a caller reported her roommate had received threats from a man.
At 2 p.m. a welfare check was requested on a man at a Lincoln Street apartment. He was found to be safe.
At 11:27 p.m. a noise complaint about a neighbor playing music containing profanity was filed.
At 11:30 p.m. a welfare check was requested at a downtown hotel. Officers found a man’s phone battery had died and he hadn’t received friends’ calls.
July 16
At 2:50 a.m. an incidence of drunkenness at Eliason Harbor was logged.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received six ambulance calls Thursday.
In Court
William Allen Montgomery, 36, of Ketchikan, on a charge of driving under the influence was sentenced to 30 days with 27 suspended, and fined $1,500. He is to receive an integrated behavioral health assessment and follow recommendations. His license was revoked for 90 days and when he regains driving privileges he is to use an ignition interlock device for six months. He will be on probation for one year.
Sitkan Indicted On
Gun, Drug Charges
Azureus N. Stamets, 40, was indicted by a Sitka grand jury Thursday on weapons and drug charges.
The four counts are: misconduct involving weapons in the second degree, a class B felony; assault in the third degree, a class C felony; misconduct involving weapons in the third degree, a class C felony; and misconduct involving a controlled substance (heroin) in the second degree, a class A felony.
Police said a man had called 911 at 1:15 a.m. July 11 from Whitcomb Trailer Court in the 2600 block of Halibut Point Road, to say a man had pointed a gun at his head and then shot into the floor.
Stamets was arrested at the home without incident, police said. He is to be arraigned July 22.
