Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

July 19

At 6:33 a.m. a caller complained about loud music in a car at the O’Connell Bridge. Officers told the woman in the car to keep the noise down.

An out-of-town caller said he’d learned a bear had spread his trash on Merrill Street, and he wanted to get it cleaned up so neighbors wouldn’t be blamed. Police gave him some options.

A man who lived in the Baranof trail head area turned in a pair of crutches he’d found.

A California driver’s license found at the national park was given to police to return to the owner.

At 4:30 p.m. a bear was reported hanging out on the water side of SMC in the 1400 block.

A man was reported picking through a boat on Beardslee Way then leaving. The man told officers he had permission.

At 10:29 p.m. a man was reported sitting on a bench at 1302 SMC. He was gone when officers arrived.

July 20

At 1:51 a.m. a Lance Drive resident complained about vehicles racing up and down the street.

At 5:52 a.m. a water leak was reported on Kirkman Way and Katlian. The city waste water plant was notified.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received nine ambulance calls Tuesday.

 

Wildlife Troopers

Braden W. Jay, 34, of Bellingham, Washington, was charged July 12 with four counts of making false statements on license applications, and six counts of unsworn falsification in the second degree. Troopers said the charges relate to sports and commercial licenses, and Jay is “not a qualified resident of Alaska and had obtained resident licenses in Alaska over the last five years.” An arraignment is set for July 26 in the district court at Sitka.

Davin Brady, 27, of Sitka, was cited for allegedly taking undersize commercial troll-caught king salmon. Troopers said they found the fish during offloading at a processor.

Bret Dickerson, 41, of Washington state, was fined $220 for reportedly failing to start a saltwater logbook prior to a fishing trip, troopers said.
