COVID

Dear Editor: Whatever deities we choose to proclaim allegiance to, well, they seem to have both a ceaselessly breaking heart, and a never-ending belly of laughter. This is on such perfect display on Monday, July 20, front page of the Sitka Sentinel, where we see these two headlines cuddling conspiratorially together: “Sitka Leads U.S. COVID Rate,” and, “Sitka Ready to Welcome Big Cruise Ship.”

In June, Dunleavy, and his absurdly inept and terrified cohort, rejected the additional $300 per week in federal money that was going to Alaskans on unemployment. The point of this was to force people back to “work.” A month later, “Sitka Leads U.S. COVID Rate.” These rainforests are fed by a wellspring of sorrow, the mountains and oceans, they swell and tumble on peels of kindly laughter.

Photographer

Dear Editor: In my estimation, James Poulson is a professional of Olympic stature.

Exquisite timing need not be disputed. He rates in top 10 of any group of photographers to be found! He takes us above and beyond and blows us away. (Refer to the front page photo of the Daily Sitka Sentinel, July 19, 2021.) This is one citizen who is relishing the ride. Thanks, James, from a professional photographer’s widow.
