Police Blotter
Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
July 19
A white Specialized mountain bike was reported stolen on DeGroff.
A 911 caller said he took a bunch of Percoset to commit suicide. He was taken to a hospital.
At 11:42 a.m. a caller said a driver had hit a child on a bike at 400 Hemlock Street.
A resident reported a scam call from a caller claiming to be with the IRS.
A caller said she’d been told a man had thought her bike was his and had planned to take it until being told not to. The man said he’d stated he was going to call police to determine whether the bike was his son’s, but had found on his own it wasn’t.
At 4:12 p.m. a caller said her mother assaulted her. EMS was called.
At 4:49 p.m. a man said a dog had bitten his son, on Baranof Street. An officer talked to the two at the hospital.
A caller said his storage container was broken into.
An officer took custody of a bag left by the Wells Fargo ATM.
A 911 caller asked for help with her intoxicated son. He declined EMS.
At 10:30 p.m. reports of fireworks on Seward Street came in. An officer gave the suspect his one warning for the year; he’ll be cited next time.
At 10:35 p.m. fireworks were reported on DeGroff Street, police were told.
July 20
At 2 a.m. a truck was found parked on the sidewalk at 205 Harbor Dr. Officers told the driver not to park there.
At 3:57 a.m. callers said a driver went into the ditch at 2713 HPR. She was given a NFR form.
At 7 a.m. a caller said her dog’s growling had awakened her at 10:30 p.m. and someone appeared to be trying to open the door, on Airport Drive. By the time her husband got to the door the person was gone, she said.
A man dropped off a wallet found on a rock on Kramer Avenue. A message was left for the juvenile owner’s dad.
A minor traffic accident with no injuries was reported at 4644 SMC.
At 8 p.m. a caller said an intoxicated man fell on Katlian Street and couldn’t get up. He was taken to a hospital.
At 8:33 p.m. a caller said a middle-aged man and a girl possibly underage were being romantic at a playground. Officers found no one in the area matching the description.
At 9 p.m. a caller asked to talk to an officer about suspicious activity on Kaagwaantaan Street.
At 10:32 p.m. fireworks were reported in the 700 block of Lake Street.
July 21
At 12:49 a.m. a caller said it sounded like a person was moving things behind a house on Erler Street. Officers talked to two juveniles at the house and told them to keep the noise down.
At 2:22 a.m. a 911 caller said two people were trying to get into their house. Officers found an intoxicated man had climbed into the house through a window. After talking to all parties, officers found the couple had just moved to town and hadn’t been told someone lived in a studio room in the house.
A bike found at Indian River and SMC was picked up.
At 4:51 a.m. doors were reported open at a school dorm. Officers found the place was in disarray and told the occupants it needed to be cleaned up, and not to prop the doors open.
At 10:09 a.m. a resident received a third party report that her cousin and cousin’s boyfriend were arguing, and may need a welfare check. Police talked to the couple who said everything was fine.
At 11:16 a.m. a resident said the people camping on Eagle Beach yell at her and make her feel unsafe when she goes for a walk in the early morning hours.
An Alcatel phone was turned in, and later picked up by the owner.
At 12:12 p.m. a resident called 911 to report a possible emergency with her husband and a co-worker who were out fishing at Redoubt Bay. Troopers determined it was an accidental activation of an emergency button.
A 911 call was received for a man on Marshall Island off Shotgun Alley who had fallen and was injured. An ambulance was dispatched.
A resident reported losing four keys on a braided white lanyard.
An ambulance was called for a diabetic emergency in Crescent Harbor but transportation was refused.
A black Samsung in a white case was reported lost Saturday.
A Chirikov Street resident reported a possible zoning violation and health hazard in the area. He was advised of his options.
A limping yellow Lab was reported at SMC and Shotgun Alley at 7:49 p.m. A fellow yellow Lab owner advised police whose it might be.
A cell phone was reported stolen.
At 11:21 p.m. a car was seen speeding on Katlian Street.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched eight ambulances Friday; four on Saturday; and four on Snday.
At 2:35 p.m. Friday a fire truck was sent to 1207 SMC on a report of a car fire. The fire was mostly out when the truck arrived, but firefighters hit the hotspots to fully extinguish it, the fire hall said.
The cause as unknown, and the fire hall noted the car was parked and not running at the time of the fire.
At 1:42 p.m. Sunday a fire truck was sent to 1000 Raptor Way after an alarm went off. It turned out to be a faulty detector, the fire hall said.
