Police Blotter
Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
July 22
A person picked up keys found at Kanga Bay with a note: “These car keys were found here May 19, 2019.”
A small dog with a blue vest was found in the Senior Center parking lot.
A kitten was caught in a trap on Princess Way.
A caller said kids riding motorcycles in a motocross style on Rands Drive property raised safety and noise issues.
Syringes were reported seen next to a dumpster at 900 HPR.
An abandoned bike was found in the 1800 block of SMC.
A Bose amplifier was stolen from Monastery Street.
A disturbance on an Eliason Harbor boat was determined noncriminal.
Six keys on a ring were reported lost.
At 5:37 p.m. a caller said someone was trying to break into his room. However, while on the phone he learned his information was incorrect and he didn’t need police help.
A caller said a man who didn’t have a shirt on had told a resident at the harbor he was looking for a job. He later put on a shirt and began walking toward town, the caller said.
A dead dog reported floating in the water off Sandy Beach at 7:46 p.m. turned out to be a dead otter. Fish and Wildlife was advised.
A vehicle was stolen from the Eliason Harbor parking lot.
At 10:30 p.m. an intoxicated man refusing to leave a house was taken into protective custody.
Police cited a driver for not having a valid license, and issued warnings about an outdated insurance card and an inoperable headlight.
A caller said a mother and child were sitting on a blanket at the Baranof Street cemetery at 11:15 p.m. The two left as police arrived.
At 11:40 p.m. fireworks were reported at Indian River and SMC. Other calls came in from around town.
July 23
At 12:30 a.m. two people were reported fighting on Monastery Street. They told officers they’d had a disagreement and agreed to go home.
At 5:04 a.m. campers were reported on the beach in the 2000 block of HPR. Officers told them to leave.
Sitka Police
Jason E. Rasmussen, 47, was arrested on a trooper warrant for violating conditions of parole.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 1:55 and 4:32 p.m. Monday and 2:06 a.m. today.
