On behalf of the Sitka Cancer Survivor Society, we wish to thank Sitka Electric, Doug Helem and Billy Steinbach for getting the lights back and working in the “Flame of Hope” sculpture, located at the Path of Hope Park. Also thank you to Sitka School District and Mike Bartolaba for the use of the lift. They all did an awesome job!

SSMF Support
Dear Editor: The Sitka Summer Music Festival has concluded another exciting festival season as well as the inspiring Sitka International Cello Seminar. We are in awe of the incredible community support we received again this year and we have a few people to thank. We are so grateful to Tim Thompson and Alaska Airlines for donating tickets for our artists’ travel. Thanks to BP, Holland America Line, Sea Mart, Mean Queen and the Sitka Fine Arts Camp for their invaluable support of our free events. Allen Marine Tours generously donated a cruise for our popular Cruise Concert and Barbara Hames graciously opened her home for our Sunday Brunch Concert. White’s Inc., Venneberg Insurance, Dove Island Lodge, McKinley Capital, Silver Bay Seafoods, Balanced Accounting Solutions, and ALPS were our evening concert sponsors.
We would also like to thank the Daily Sitka Sentinel, Raven Radio and KIFW for promotional assistance; the staff at Harrigan Centennial Hall; Old Harbor Books for ticket sales; Jim Dangel for the beautiful stage flowers; the Community House; the Sitka Public Library; the Blatchley Middle School music department for loaning music stands; and White’s Inc. and Sea Mart for helping to feed our artists; Ludvig’s Bistro for donating seafood; Sitka Sound Seafoods for helping out with seafood and loaning their tent; Seafood Producers Co-op for providing salmon; BIBCO for donating beer; and Specialty Imports for the support.
Our generous post-concert cookie reception hosts were: Sitka Rotary Club, St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, Sitka Summer Music Festival Foundation, Greater Sitka Legacy Fund, Sitka Emblem Club, Sitkans Against Family Violence, Sitka Conservation Society and SEARHC. Sitka Community Hospital generously provides laundry services year-round; Alaska Coach Tours transports our cruise ship visitors; and Foreign Auto for their expert help with our vehicles.
We have an amazing crew of over 40 volunteers that we would like to thank for helping with our special events and at our concerts with ticket sales, ushering and selling merchandise. Gratitude also goes out to Susan Reed for her amazing concert notes, pre-concert conversations and accompaniment throughout the festival; to Christine Davenport for capturing such beautiful photographs of our concerts and events; to this year’s generous post-concert dinner hosts; Carmen Bartelds and Gerry Fleming for all the delicious food; and to Tom and LaNelle Bacon for their tireless efforts in keeping Stevenson Hall in order throughout the festival.
Thanks to our amazing Sitka board members: Don Lehmann, Kari Lundgren, Mary Hames, Dan Jones, Tiffany Pearson, Dirk White and Jim Steffen for hosting dinners, providing transportation, entertaining our artists and seminar students, organizing special events, and much more.
Of course, the heart of this festival is the music, and we’d like to sincerely thank the musicians who dedicated their time and talent to be here this summer: Alfredo Oyaguez, Andrew Smith, Tom Stone, Cecily Ward, Doris Stevenson, Trio Jinx, Christian Colberg, Allison Bailey, Helen Kim, Martin Sher, Yuliya Gorenman, Cicely Parnas and Jenny Douglass. Thanks also to Dr. Melissa Kraut of the Cleveland Institute of Music for her amazing leadership as our education director for the Sitka International Cello Seminar.
And last but certainly not least: our warmest gratitude to each and every person who attended our concerts and events this summer. Without audiences, this festival would not exist. Our guest artists are consistently amazed at the kindness of this community, and the incredibly warm reception they receive here. Thank you for providing such a nurturing home for this festival!
