Fish Box Tax
Dear Editor: I am surprised to see the city fish box tax money directed to nonprofits, like the science center and ALFA.
The fish box tax could have been directed toward offsetting the city’s costs to haul fish offal, from the charter boats’ fish-cleaning stations. I never understood why the city got in the guts-hauling business to begin with. Why aren’t charter boats dressing their fish onboard? Like commercial vessels?
It’s nothing short of ridiculous for the city to underwrite that service, instead of funding it with user fees.
