    Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
July 3
    A woman said her teenage son hadn’t returned the previous night after a movie, and her ex hadn’t seen the boy either. While the officer was speaking with the caller, the son was seen. He said he’d been at his dad’s all night and in his room, and the dad might not have seen him when he left for fishing.
     Police talked to a driver after a load fell off a truck on Davidoff Street.
    A driver parking in a handicap spot turned out to have a valid placard but it was on the floorboard.
    At 10 a.m. a 911 caller said people were yelling. Police found that an officer and a resident were resident called 911 about people yelling, which turned out to be between an officer and a resident in a grocery store. The resident was arrested.
    At 11:13 a.m. an intoxicated man sleeping on a bench by the library registered a .318 reading on the breathalyzer and was taken to the hospital.
    Tires were slashed in the 1800 block of HPR.
    A woman found drug paraphernalia in a room her son is staying in. She called her son’s probation officer in Juneau. The drugs were confiscated and the man was charged.
    Kids were reportedly hanging around after hours and setting off fireworks near the library, officers were told.
    A brown pack with pistols inside was reported missing. He said he may have left the pack on his vehicle and drove off. It turned out a co-worker was playing a joke on him, and returned the items.
    A man who blew a .301 breathalyzer reading was taken to the hospital from the lightering facility at 3:26 p.m.
    A key on a lanyard was turned in from the library.
    A delusional person on Katlian Street turned out to be under the influence of meth and was taken to the hospital.
    At 8:45 p.m. a juvenile set off a firework in the 3500 block of HPR and ran up a hill, police were told. No one was in the area when police arrived.
    At 8:53 p.m. a man was sleeping on a bench in front of city hall.
    Fireworks complaints were received on Islander Drive.
    At 9:35 p.m. a resident expressed concern about industrial-grade fireworks in the 1200 block of SMC. Other fireworks complaints were received throughout the night.
    A man was seen sleeping in the grass in the 300 block of Katlian Street, but he was gone when police arrived a few minutes later at 10 p.m.
    At 11 p.m. a man was seen sleeping in the 900 block of HpR. Two men were actually there, intoxicated but able to care for themselves, police said. Criminal trespass notices were served.
    At 11:32 p.m. two people were seen climbing on the fuel tanks at the end of Lincoln Street, but officers were rerouted to another call.
    At 11:38 p.m. a resident called 911 to report a man was pinning her down and screaming at her. Both had left in opposite directions before police arrived.
July 4
    A man was arrested after police conducted a traffic stop around 1:30 a.m. and in the process their patrol vehicle was struck.
    A resident was seen stumbling in and out of Lillian Drive at 2:30 a.m. Police talked to another person in the area, who was intoxicated but not matching the description given earlier. He continued home.
    At 2:32 a.m. a man unable to get up from the grass next to ANB Harbor refused an ambulance ride and headed home.
    
Sitka Police
    Tommy Svilar, 23, was cited for failing to have a driver’s license and proof of insurance, Wednesday.
    Zachary Ison, 32, was arrested Wednesday for assault in the third degree on a police officer, misconduct involving weapons in the fifth, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
    Itzel Nunez, 21, was remanded Wednesday for testing positive for methamphetamine, and charged with violating release conditions.
    Calvin Boord, 50, was remanded Wednesday on a probation violation. He was also arrested for charges of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second.
    Ann Marie Morris, 36, was arrested on a warrant for failing to appear on a charge of driving under the influence.
    Mike Standridge, 31, was arrested Thursday on a charge of driving under the influence and reckless driving. He was also cited for failing to have insurance proof, expired registration and failure to avoid a collision.

Grand Jury

A Sitka grand jury on Wednesday indicted Joseph D. Castro, 42, and Angela L. Castro, 39, each on a charge of theft in the second degree. They were alleged on or about April 3 to have stolen an access device. Both are to appear in court 8:30 a.m. July 12.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received 12 requests for ambulances on Wednesday and six on Thursday.

 

Coast Guard

A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter late Thursday night medevacked a 69-year-old man with acute kidney failure off the cruise ship Norwegian Bliss in Glacier Bay. He was flown to Juneau and picked up by an awaiting ambulance, the Coast Guard said.
