July 5, 2022, Police Blotter

Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

July 1

At 7:15 a.m. two men at the Crescent Harbor shelter were reported being loud. They agreed to leave.

A man on Lance Drive said two vehicles had been keyed.

Fireworks were reported on Indian River Road. Police were advised.

Dogs were reported to have been left in a car at the airport. Officers talked to the owner, who worked nearby.

Officers stood by while a person being evicted left a downtown apartment.

A fake $100 bill was given to police.

A man reported sleeping at the Indian River trail head left without issues.

A woman whose friend’s ex was harassing her was advised of options.

A loud banging was heard on Lifesaver Drive. Officers were advised.

 

July 2

At 12:02 a.m. a dog was reported to have run off on Kaagwaantaan.

At 1:29 a.m. a man was found unconscious on the ground at Eliason Harbor. Officers said the man, age 21, apparently had been beaten by juveniles. He was taken to the hospital, and a few hours later taken home. Police are investigating.

At 1:29 a.m. a man in a residential area said he’d been assaulted by a group of women. He later said he didn’t want to report it.

A black dog found in front of the fire hall was taken to the animal shelter.

Two intoxicated men were found sleeping at Totem Square. Officers determined they were able to care for themselves.

At  12:44 p.m. a fender bender was reported at the Lakeside parking lot.

A woman reported her elderly husband was missing. Officers located him and  he was taken to the hospital. His wife was advised.

At 5:32 p.m. yelling was reported heard at a trailer court in the 2100 block of HPR. Officers found it was just teens playing.

At 6:43 p.m. a dog was reported barking on Finn Alley. The animal control officer was advised.

A ring was reported lost at the Sitka Sound Science Center.

At 8:09 p.m. fireworks were reported in the 2800 block of HPR. Officers were advised.

At 8:48 p.m. a man with an open container was reported in the 700 block of HPR. He was advised of the law.

At 9:21 p.m. an officer reported citing people in two parked cars having problems with underage drinking.

At 10 p.m. police received three calls about fireworks in the Lance Drive-Burkhart Street area.

At 10:31 p.m. juveniles were reported at Herring Cove Road. Officers took eight of them back to town.

July 3

At 11:06 a.m. two dogs found on Austin Street were taken to the shelter.

At 2:48 p.m. a woman said while she was in the shower her 5-year-old had gone missing. While on the phone with police, she found him hiding in a closet under clothes.

A woman who reported her dog was missing was told it was at the shelter.

At 3:48 p.m. a block party was reported in the Observatory-Seward streets area, with a badminton game being played in the street. Told neighbors had complained, the partyers stopped.

At 7:20 p.m. Pioneers Home residents said loud music on Lincoln Street was keeping them awake.

At 8:20 p.m. a man on a go-cart was reported in the roadway at Lake Road and SMC. Officers gave him a verbal warning.

A man reported losing his phone and a wallet at Katlian and HPR. The wallet was returned to him, and he called later to say he’d found his phone.

At 9:49 p.m., at Donna Drive and Cascade Creek Road; and at 10:07 p.m.  in the1300 block of SMC, officers were advised of fireworks.

At 10:39 p.m. police were told someone had spray-painted graffiti at the skate park. Officers will review video footage of the incident.

 

July 4

At 12:31 p.m. a woman said her dog had run off on Georgeson Loop, but she called back a couple of hours later to say she’d found it.

An elderly woman without money or a place to stay was taken to a temporary shelter.

Officers were advised that a caller had reported fireworks in the 1800 block of HPR.

At 9:14 a.m. a man was reported swinging a blade at a tree in Totem Park. Officers did not locate him.

A man reported losing his dog, a pug, in the Darrin Drive and HPR area.

A woman reported a hit and run in the 200 block of Harbor Drive.

A man said someone was using his debit card. Police opened a case.

At 9:40 p.m. officers were advised of fireworks in the 2200 block of HPR.

At 10:21 p.m. a caller on Harvest Way said debris from 4th of July fireworks was hitting his roof. Kids who had been shooting off the fireworks were told to clean up the aftereffects.

At 10:27 p.m. two intoxicated men were reported in the 300 block of Lincoln Street. Officers found they were able to care for themselves.

Officers were advised of fireworks, at 10:27 p.m. on Burkhart; at 11:10 p.m. in the 4700 block of HPR; and at 11:12 p.m. in the 2900 block of SMC.

At 11:29 p.m. police were told of fireworks going off in the 400 block of Monastery. Officers spoke with a resident and issued a verbal warning.

 

Sitka Police

Christopher Polasky, 29, was charged Sunday with assault in the fourth degree.

Paula Jackson, 38, was charged Sunday with violating conditions of release.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received four ambulance calls Friday; four on Saturday; nine on Sunday, along with two false alarms on fires; and four ambulance calls on Monday.

Wildlife Troopers

August Bickar, 23, was fined $120 after he allegedly kept a sockeye salmon under a subsistence permit and failed to record the fish before leaving the fishing site on June 26.

Chatham Conner, 27, was cited for retaining a king salmon less than 28 inches in length. Troopers said they contacted him while he was offloading salmon at a local fish processing facility June 27. The undersized fish was seized, and he was to be arraigned in Sitka district court.
