Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

July 5

At 7:41 a.m. two men were reported napping in a grocery store deli section. After police awakened them, one was taken to the hospital due to his level of intoxication; the other was deemed able to take care of himself.

A resident on Sirstad Street was cited for allowing a dog run at large.

At 12:34 p.m. a bus shelter in the 3700 block of HPR was reported to have been vandalized, with a window broken out.

A single key found at UAS was turned in to police.

A woman talked to police about a protective order.

A caller said a dog had been tied up for what seemed to be some time in the 200 block of Lincoln Street. Police found the owner was shopping and the dog hadn’t been tied up for long and was fine.

At 6:17 p.m. juveniles were reported setting off fireworks at Totem Park. Officers were unable to locate the kids.

A man who lives near the Gavan Hill trail head reported bananas had been stolen from him.

At 8:52 p.m. a boat was reported to have run out of gas near Vitskari Rock. Police notified the Coast Guard.

At 8:07 p.m. fireworks were reported being set off on Indian River Road. Officers were advised.

At 11:34 p.m. a bear was reported eating garbage on Mikele Street, off the 3000 block of HPR. Police said a resident cleaned up the mess while the bear, still eating garbage, watched. It was chased off.

July 6

At 12:28 a.m. a bear was reported eating garbage near the Channel Club, in the 2900 block of HPR. It was chased off.

At 4:25 a.m. a man was reported sleeping at the post office. Officers advised him he had to leave.
