July 7, 2014 Letters to the Editor

Food Fight
Dear Editor: This letter is regarding the picture of the ‘‘food fight’’ on the front page of the Sentinel of July 2.
I have constantly bragged to people in other communities about the quality of our newspaper of Sitka, my hometown. Now I am not so sure. In fact, I’m embarrassed that such a picture should be printed at all in the local newspaper, let alone on the front page! Am I missing something here?
Since when do we encourage our children, and laud them for participating in, a ‘‘food fight?’’ Food is precious, whether you like that kind of food or not. Heaven forbid that those who don’t like Americans for many real or imagined faults, should see this picture. There are starving people all over the world, and some in our own community who don’t get enough to eat. And here we are lauding a ‘‘food fight!’’
