Best of Parade Float
Dear Editor: Congratulations on Daily Sitka Sentinel’s float being Best of Parade. Skillful work from a most talented and energetic family!
I wish that the float images can be preserved and displayed along with the float-making narrative.

Brave Heart Bowls
Dear Editor: We had an outstanding turnout for our Brave Heart Volunteers Bowl Fundraiser last Saturday, which raised over $13,000 for BHV! We are grateful to everyone who attended, and to all the businesses, potters, and volunteers who helped us make it happen.
First, we want to thank the ceramic artists who donated their extraordinary talent and time to craft 300 bowls for the event: Lynn Brandon, Trenton Capp, Blake Conaway, Matt Fisk, Michele Friedman, Courtney Heart, Jenny Klejka, Ashia Lane, David Lass, Kathleen McCrossin, Gaylen Needham, Ritch Phillips, Josh Ragnes, Robert Rose, Marge Steward, and Liz Zacher. A special thanks also goes to Liz Zacher and UAS-Sitka for allowing the artists to use the campus studio to create bowls. Thank you all. We couldn’t have done it without you.
We are also immensely grateful to the businesses that donated delicious soups and rolls to go: Beak Restaurant, Ludvig’s Bistro, Mangiare Italian Restaurant, the Nugget Restaurant, Pizza Express, and Sea Mart. The soups and bread were a hit, and we are so grateful for your support.
Our Donations Boards are a new fundraising feature that added an element of fun with several hidden prizes. Thank you to Trish and Dirk White for donating the boards, and to Tyler Eddy at Harry’s Custom Services for designing them. Several wonderful businesses donated the hidden prizes: Arctic Chiropractic, Delta Western, Hames Corporation, Old Harbor Books, Orion Sporting Goods, Sitka Swirls, and True Value. Sitka Swirls also raised $768 for BHV from their sales and tips on Saturday! Thank you to all of you for your amazing generosity.
We also want to thank the talented Zak Wass, who played fantastic guitar music and added such a pleasant, festive air to the event. Three BHV volunteers also donated their time on a sunny Saturday to help: Susan Padilla, Alicia Sprague and Fredi Young. We are so grateful for your extra hands and smiles!
Additional thanks go to each member of the BHV Board of Directors, whose enthusiasm and dedication to BHV is unmatched: Michele Friedman, Frederick Olsen Jr., Gloria Pies, Jenny Klejka, Shauna Thornton, Jerrod Galanin, Tonya Venneberg, Lacey Tuten, and Dr. Drew Thompson. Their hard work made for such a smooth, seamless event.
Lastly, we are deeply grateful to the Daily Sitka Sentinel and KCAW Raven Radio for their constant support and invaluable promotion of BHV events. Each is a treasure, not only to BHV, but to all of Sitka. Thank you!
