4th of July Thanks
Dear Editor: Because of our travels, we’ve missed too many 4th of July celebrations in Sitka; and the memories of years past become perhaps more magical than the events seemed at the time. We finally managed to work the schedule to be home and are very happy that we were able to do so.
Thank you to Petro Marine, Allen Marine and Silver Bay Seafoods for a fantastic display of fireworks.
Thank you as well to Hal Spackman and the Sitka Historical Society (and all the many volunteers who they pulled together) for re-gathering activities in one location so that we all had an “old time celebration.” This involved neighbors talking to neighbors and kids trying some of the games that their grandparents (or maybe great-grandparents) enjoyed, creating in some memories that will last a lifetime.
Everyone had a good time because of a tremendous amount of organizational energy of a few. I wonder if the folks in off the cruise ships could realize the blessings of a small town. The scenery will always be impressive, but it’s the people that make Sitka such a special place. Thank you.
