City Taxes
Dear Editor: It is good to see the Sitka Assembly removing the sales tax from marijuana sales. While I am not a user, it gives me hope that one day the Assembly will see the wisdom of removing the sales tax from single malt Scotch and Cabernet Sauvignon.Â
I urge all taxpaying citizens of Sitka to write your favorite Assembly person to encourage them to remove sales tax from some of your favorite stuff. Or better yet, everyone should come to the next Assembly meeting and voice their favorite stuff during the people to be heard.
The more I think about this sales tax removal it is nothing more than a deceitful effort to circumvent the prohibition on earmarking tax revenues for special interests.
Also, I am not in favor of the Assembly giving away $200,000 of our tax revenue to entertain other peoples’ children.
