ATA Attends Meeting

Dear Editor: Trollers and sport fishermen: the Alaska Trollers Association Executive Director Amy Daugherty will be in Sitka this weekend to attend the North Pacific Fishery Management Council meeting.

ATA is concerned about trawl by-catch of SEAK salmon in the Bering Sea and the Gulf of Alaska in an era of weak Chinook returns to SEAK and British Columbia rivers. Amy will be in Sitka till Monday. This is a chance to talk to her during breaks at the council meeting. See you there.

Imagination Library

Dear Editor: The Sitka Imagination Library board wishes to thank recent grantors: Sitka Charitable Trust, Best Beginnings Alaska, Elks National Foundation, the Sitka Coast Guard Spouses and Women’s Association and Sitka Woman’s Club! We also wish to thank Sitka Elks Lodge #1662 and Sitka Emblem Club #142 for their unwavering financial and programmatic support as well as the private individuals who have generously donated. These funds sustain deliveries of high-quality, age-appropriate books in the mail each month to all 276 infants, toddlers and preschoolers enrolled in the program and allow us to keep enrollment open.

The Sitka Imagination Library is an affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and is run by Sitkans facilitating the local book-gifting program for all resident Sitka and Port Alexander children under the age of five. The local program is made possible through state and local funding as well as fundraising efforts by its all-volunteer board.  Thank you sponsors for your continued support of young children and their families!  The community will reap the benefits of early literacy well into the future!

If you know a child under the age of five who isn’t receiving books in the mail for FREE, go to imaginationlibrary.com to sign them up today!
