Cancer Survivors Event
Dear Editor: On behalf of the Sitka Cancer Survivor’s Society, we wish to thank all those who attended last Sunday’s Cancer Survivor’s Celebration that was held at the Path of Hope.
It was actually National Cancer Survivor Day on June 2. We had a special guest from Anchorage join us. Ali Cano who works as a public health specialist/Alaska Cancer Partnership Coalition coordinator for the State of Alaska. We were so happy she chose us to be here for our celebration.
We had our best turnout yet for our event. We want to give a special thank you to Sitka Emblem Club 142 for providing all the yummy refreshments, the weather held out so no need of a tent this year! Emblem Club truly helps make this event such a success year after year.
The kids and adults had so much fun finding the hidden treasures. We do have excellent treasure hunters, they always find them all. The flowers were beautiful by Bev’s Flowers and Gifts that were given to all the survivors who attended. Reminder we give mini-grants to those in Sitka dealing with cancer.
We want to also thank the Sitka Sentinel for attending and for the front page picture featured in the paper. For all the PSAs they do for us, and for Raven Radio and KIFW as well. All helping us get the word out about our events and our mission.
We encourage all in Sitka to take time and walk through the Path of Hope. Let’s help keep the vandalism down. As a reminder notify the police if you see anything out of order. We thank you as this park belongs to all of us in Sitka.
We encourage you to buy a quilt raffle ticket for a cure, for this year. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Sitka Farmers Markets beginning June 29, or anytime from one of our board members or by calling Bonnie Richards at 907 738-0692. Drawing this year is Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Elks Lodge.
Thanks, again, for your continued support to us!
