Wounded Soldiers
Dear Editor: Freedom Alliance just completed a very successful event for six wounded soldiers. They had the time of their lives overcoming many of their injuries to complete their three-day fishing excursion. What a healing time it was for them.
Freedom Alliance would like to thank Vonnie’s Bed and Breakfast guide service for making the trip possible. Without their vision and patriotism Freedom Alliance would not have had the chance to make such a great impact on these soldiers.
We also want to thank Sitka Coast Guard, Civil Air Patrol and the American Legion for putting on a great welcome when these heroes arrived to Sitka on Saturday evening. Our team was so impressed that all three groups were willing to stay at the airport beyond normal hours to honor the soldiers upon arrival. Sitka Tours, and our guide Andrew, were a true blessing to our efforts of making it possible for our wheelchair bound soldier Jason to make it to and from the dock each morning and afternoon. Thank you for your dedication without regard to personal gain.
Thank you to Mandy Odenheimer, station manager, and Alaska Airlines for their support. Of course, we need to thank Capt. Eric Jensen, Capt. Spencer Chutte and deckhand Aaron for truly giving our injured soldiers a Sitka Alaska fishing experience they will never forget.
Last, but certainly not least, I want to thank the Sitka Sentinel for their support and the City of Sitka for their patriotism and truly wonderful time in their amazing city. Thanks for allowing the time we had with your citizens and for the patriots that live in your city that were so willing to be a part of the healing process for these heroes.
You are all truly a part of our mission to “Help Heal the Wounds of War.”
Alicia Behm, Program Manager, Freedom Alliance
