Education and Sports
Dear Editor: Education of children is the cornerstone of Democracy.
We as a country must have adults who understand, history, civics, learn math, speech, drama, art, music, proper English, how to write a paper, science, libraries (to promote reading/research skills), and how the world works and other important topics, including computers.
There are millions and millions of children in this world who have no opportunity for school, want to attend school and learn and cannot because they have no access to education.
It saddens me deeply to read in the June 7 paper that sports is the main focus of so many children to attend school. This is not the first time I have heard this and it is absurd. Learning team effort can be accomplished in drama, music, math, and spelling competitions. Sports can be done outside of school. As a taxpayer it is not my priority.
Do you understand the importance of voting? That is what I want to know. Not how many baskets you have made.
The nation needs to adjust the manner in which we teach children so that education is why they want to attend school and not sports.
