Home Brew Contest
Dear Editor: The Sitka Seafood Festival would like to thank everyone who attended and was involved in the third annual Home Brew Contest Fundraiser.
We did not have as many brews this year, but I must say the quality was absolutely amazing. Nice job, brewers! Congratulations to the 2013 Home Brew Winners: first place by judges’ vote went to Brent Edwards with his Brenteken Dark. A two-way tie for crowd favorite went to Kasey Davis and Matt Lawrie’s Double Hopped Sitka Flower Bomb and to Brandon Saiz for his Rye So Sad.
Thank you to all the brewers, to our two judges, Lucas Goddard and Lloyd Parsley, to Baranof Island Brewery as always, and of course, to all the volunteers and helpers that made this happen including Linda Olson, Ann Wilkinson, Mary and Jerry Helem, Patrice Wilkens and her husband, Carrie Johnson, Allison Allen, Jessica Gibson, Aubrey Angelillis, Paul Columb, the Ferricks, Rachel Ramsey, Wayne Olson, Eric Haseltine for organizing the event, and the Sitka Emblem Club.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the upcoming fourth annual Sitka Seafood Festival scheduled for Aug. 1-3. For more info, check us out at www.sitkaseafoodfestival.org

Music Festival Concerts
Dear Editor: I must report how thrilled I was to be able to attend the recent Sitka Summer Music Festival concerts at Centennial Hall. I heard world-class musicians perform and that was rip roaring sensational.
If I wanted to hear this caliber of music performed typically I would have to go to Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco, Beijing, London, Paris, Stockholm, Tokyo, the sweltering east coast, the hot, hot Southwest, or any huge city in a faraway place. But, no … I live in Sitka and the Sitka Summer Music Festival brings these musicians right here.
Now, you may not be a fan of chamber music but I suggest you check out a concert – as you may come away very pleased by what you hear and the savings is nothing to sneeze at either. Enjoy.
Jeff Budd, Sitka

White E Parking
Dear Editor: The Sitka White Elephant Shop thanks the public for all the quality donations given for the volunteers to process for sale. In the last 22 years over $1 million has been given back into the community non-profits and individual assistance.
When you park to leave your donations, please, please park as close to the building as possible and NEVER block the easement. The White E strives to be good neighbors to the two homes behind us as the city easement is the only access they have to their homes. It is irritating and frustrating to them when a vehicle is blocking the easement and we certainly understand. The volunteers appreciate your kind consideration to the two homes when parking.
