Kid’s Fishing Day
Dear Editor: The Sitka Rotary Club, Alaska Department of Fish and Game, and U.S. Forest Service would like to extend thanks to the attendees and sponsors of the 83rd Annual Swan Lake Kid’s Fishing Day.
Fishing took place on what turned out to be a very warm, cloudy Saturday, June 8.
The air horn sounded at 9 a.m. sharp and 64 youth anglers, ages 4-12, cast their lines. From 9 a.m. to noon, every rainbow, cutthroat and Dolly Varden in Swan Lake was fair game. In total, 77 fish were weighed and measured. Sizes ranged from 5 inches to 13 inches. Prizes were awarded for the largest and smallest fish in each of the age groups as well as random weight prizes.
Prizes for largest fish were awarded to Siggy Bishop, Espen Nash, Frances Haag, Coen Kitka, Ayla Ferguson and Cody Wagner. Smallest fish prizes were awarded to Ellie Green, Luka Papoi, Frances Haag, Keian Young, Gemma Tabachnik, and Brady Smith.
Hidden weight prizes were awarded to Solaris Hoffay, Olive Foster, Brantly Allyn, Eli Cooley, Asa Routon, Baker Matz, Greyson Browning, Kobi Nash, Odin Anderson, Caleb Gray, Elliott Lawler, Jaxon Bates, Owen Carbajal, Ezra Routon, Cadence Cooley, Nico Tabachnik, Marty Vinson, Karver Bezezekoff and Fraser Jansen.
Thanks goes to Sitka Sound Seafoods for the lend of fish totes for gear and fish transport. Thanks also to our generous local vendors for prize donations.
A very special thanks goes to the U.S. Coast Guard. For the fourth consecutive year, the USCG has generously contributed their time, equipment, and expertise. On the morning of May 22, the USCG airlifted 300 lively rainbow trout, captured by ADF&G and USFS, from Sukoi Lake, on Kruzof Island, to Sitka.

Brave Heart Grants
Dear Editor: I would like to thank the following organizations for recently awarding grants to Brave Heart Volunteers: ELCA Alaska Synod, $500 for general operations; the Sitka U.S. Coast Guard Spouses and Women’s Association, $768.77 for printing new volunteer training handbooks; the Sitka Woman’s Club, $150 for our Light Up a Life event; and the Sitka Alaska Permanent Charitable Trust, $4,065 to enhance our volunteer program.
We are deeply grateful to each of these organizations for their constant support of BHV. Every dollar helps us continue providing free services to our neighbors who are facing grief, loneliness, and end of life, and we simply could not do it without their generosity. Thank you, again and again! In gratitude,
Angie DelMoral, Executive Director
