Bus Funding
Dear Editor: Did our Assembly just give $170,000 to help a few owners of private seaplanes improve their float dock?
Did the same Assembly refuse to give even $25,000 to help fund public bus transportation for Sitka citizens who can’t drive or can’t afford a vehicle?
Do you think this should be reconsidered? Remember, ‘‘A man finds joy in giving in apt reply, and how good is a timely word.’’ Proverbs 15:23.

Our RIDE
Dear Editor: Because of my soon-to-be 3-year-old’s obsession with all the bus commotion around town, today she took her first bus ride. In my nine years in Sitka, I had never once been on the RIDE. What an oversight. I paid $2 for me and both kids.
In our 30 minute loop on the green line I sat with five others passengers. The bus driver knew most by name as he picked them up on the various stops as they commuted to work. Two seniors asked if they were on the correct route to go to the eye doctor, and asked how much they needed to pay, they each paid a dollar and took their seats.
My daughter was all smiles as we quickly went from stop to stop. They stopped at my workplace, I calculated it being about a 15-minute bus ride to and from my house, not bad. Overall it was a delightful experience. If you haven’t ridden on the RIDE I would encourage you to pick up a bus route schedule and hop on. And for $2, you might as well bring the family (kids ride for free). Maybe we’ll bump into you. Thanks, Sitka, for all you provide for your community members.
