Coverage Thanks

Dear Editor: We want to recognize the really thorough and entertaining sports coverage Klas Stolpe has done over the past months. The photos, quotes and articles are appreciated. And thank you for the Fathers Day tribute to your own father. It was very moving. We look forward to more! Good job!

Administrator Firing

Dear Editor: I was very surprised and disappointed to arrive home from Washington, D.C., where I was lobbying as a volunteer in Citizens Climate Lobby, for HR763, the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, to find out there had been a coup d’etat of Keith Brady by the Assembly. I haven’t always agreed with Keith but I haven’t always agreed with any of Sitka’s city administrators or Assembly members. That doesn’t necessarily require dismissal.

What is particularly concerning about this dismissal is the lack of transparency, backroom decisions and leaving the public out. Did Keith do something so egregious it required his humiliation and potential damage to his future career? If he did, I’d like to know what. And I believe it’s against our city policy to go individually to the city administrator to influence his actions. Is that an incorrect understanding?

It’s rather galling that those who voted to dismiss him are those who regularly have called for transparent process. What a hypocrisy. It doesn’t make me feel proud of Sitka.
