Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
June 16
A 1:12 a.m. a caller on Burkhart Street said neighbors were screaming and banging on walls. Officers found it was a family argument and no crime had been committed.
At 3:49 a.m. a dead deer was reported by the road in the 2100 block of HPR. Police picked up the carcass.
At 4:43 a.m. a caller reported a vehicle was going at what seemed like 60 mph over the O’Connell Bridge. Officers talked to the driver, who said he was late for work.
At 7:04 a.m. a caller said he heard a loud alarm going off in a neighbor’s home but no one came to the door when he knocked. Officers called the home and the resident said his alarm clock had gone off and he hadn’t heard it.
An iPhone was turned in, and the owner claimed it.
At 8:18 a.m. Public Works reported syringes had been found in the Crescent Harbor restroom.
A fender-bender was reported at Sandy Beach at 11:11 a.m.
The animal control officer picked up a lost dog in the 3100 block of HPR.
At 11:35 a.m. a woman reported finding an unattended child at Sandy Beach, but she called back a few minutes later to say she’d found the child’s guardian.
A wallet was turned in and placed in the police property drawer.
Abandoned vehicles in the 600 block of Katlian and at Eliason Harbor were tagged for towing.
At 3:18 p.m. a caller said a dog was in a vehicle with the windows rolled up at Katlian and Kaagwaantaan streets, and appeared to be in distress. Police cited the owner for animal cruelty.
A protective order was to be served.
A man said people had come to his home and threatened him. Police are investigating.
At 6:20 p.m. cars parked in the 2800 block of HPR were reported posing a traffic problem.
At 6:56 p.m. a caller reported a hit and run in the 300 block of Lincoln Street.
At 11:20 p.m. a vehicle was reported parked facing the wrong direction, in the 300 block of Lincoln Street. Officers asked the driver to move it.
Between 11:26 p.m. last night and 12:31 a.m. today officers did traffic stops for speeding, and problems with headlights and license plates.

Juvenio Garcia, 37, was charged early this morning with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received nine ambulance calls Thursday.
At 11:26 a.m. Thursday an engine was sent to Starrigavan, where a fire in a cooking spot had gone into the bushes. The fire crew doused it.
In Court
Michael D. Pizzaro, 53, on a Dec. 30, 2021, charge of assault in the fourth degree, recklessly injure, a class A misdemeanor, was sentenced to 120 days with 119 suspended, and fined $1,000, suspended.
He is to complete a behavioral health assessment and follow recommendations.
He will be on probation for one year. Dec. 30, 2021 charges of assault in the fourth degree, cause fear of injury, and interfering with a report of a domestic violence crime were dismissed, along with a charge of violating conditions of release, on April 6, 2022.
Coast Guard
A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Sitka investigated a personal locator beacon signal that had gone off early Thursday afternoon near Petersburg but it turned out to be a false alarm.
In Petersburg, the crew talked to a group of jetskiers and found a beacon in a lifejacket had been activated accidentally. No one was in distress and the helicopter returned to Sitka by 2:20 p.m.
