Carts and Stands

Dear Editor: Seeing all the carts and stands springing up in Sitka reminds me of the timeshare salesmen at the airports in Mexico, where you’re visibly, and audibly, assaulted by jucksters at every turn. (Sentinel June 17 ‘‘Food Stands ...’’)

It’s interesting to note that one of my friends has been fighting Planning for a decade about how he can use his own property, while vendors are now issued free rein in the use, and allocation, of public property. Such as, consider the blue school bus. In the always-full Centennial parking lot. Parked, over four painted parking spaces. It looks to me like public space is being allocated only to those with the firmest relations to the city (administration).

Food sales should be limited to established restaurants, paying property and sales tax. Not blocking five lanes. Carts go on private property. Geez, Loueez! Who is running this town?

Birthday Greetings

Dear Editor: A fabulous thank you and blessings to all my family and friends here in Sitka and from afar. Tears of joy come as I am closing out June 17, my birthday. Yes, joy continues above and beyond as I have memories from the ‘‘get go’’ upon my rising, not just verbal greetings, phone calls and hugs but there came purple flowers, purple balloons, purple hanging plants.

One of the greatest and funnest was the surprises of ‘‘singers’’ throughout the day at the Little Family Store. Again, thank you to all who went out of their way to share this special day with me. God bless y’all!

Alene Henning, Sitka
