Guns

Dear Editor: Our Founding Fathers did not give us the right to keep and bear arms so a teenager could get a machine gun and murder 10 shoppers in a grocery store in New York.

Our Founding Fathers did not give us the right to keep and bear arms so children and teenagers and adults could walk into schools and murder or injure children or educators or personnel.

Our Founding Fathers did not give us the right to keep and bear arms that could kill and injure 50 people within a few minutes.

Our Founding Fathers did not give us the right to keep and bear arms so criminals or anyone with any emotional/mental issues/weaknesses could harm or maim or murder anyone they chose for any reason.

Our Founding Fathers gave us the right to keep and bear arms to protect our country, our states, our cities, our government, our property, and our families, friends, and others, from those who would seek to harm us.

There are tears and mind-numbing regret in the eyes of every one of our watching Founding Fathers today.

G.L. Hammons, Sitka

Big Rig Benefit

Dear Editor: 3 to 5 Preschool thanks the community of Sitka for coming to our Big Rig Fundraiser on May 7. Seeing the families of this wonderful community walk through to see all of the rigs and spending time together is what makes this event so much fun to do each year.

There are so many people to thank for making this event possible and we want to take the opportunity to acknowledge them! Thank you to our many wonderful sponsors. We couldn’t have had the fundraiser without all of your tremendous help. Arrowhead Transfer, Emblem Club, Prewitt Enterprises, Hardrock Construction, Absolute Tree Care, Hames Corporation, The Sitka Soup, Sitka Bulk Goods, Sitka Swirls, Sitka Bottling and Pacific Services, we are so grateful for your contributions. We also would like to thank Sitka Northern Sales for their donation. Another special thank you goes to the Sitka Fire Department for allowing us to include a drawing to ride in one of their fire trucks every year.

We also wish to thank the parents of our students, community members, and all who volunteered at our fundraiser and gave of their time, energy, and donated or borrowed supplies. We are grateful to all of our volunteers for making our event fun and safe for everyone who attended. Thank you to the Sitka Sentinel and all who helped us get the word out about our fundraiser. We are so grateful to have your support.

We also would like to give a huge shout out and thank you to all of those who brought their rigs and vehicles to our event! There wouldn’t be a Big Rig Fundraiser without our big rigs bringing the community together! We had 29 amazing rigs  and vehicles for kids and adults to enjoy!

As you can see, it takes many, many hands to put on an event!  Most of all 3 to 5 Preschool wishes to thank our community for the support you give us year round by coming to our events, and graciously offering and giving your gift of time, energy, and talents to our program in a variety of ways.

We are forever grateful!
