COVID-19 Vaccines
Dear Editor: There is a highly unusual convergence of agreement among elements of left-wing liberals and right-wing conservatives around COVID-19 vaccines. More often than not, relying on non-empirical research and anecdotal reasoning, they have made value-based decisions to refuse to be vaccinated. They are making a clear statement that personal choice trumps the greater public health and in so doing putting the lives and welfare of family, friends, and neighbors at risk.

Golf Tournament
Dear Editor: The Greater Sitka Chamber of Commerce hosted the 13th Annual Sitka Golf Tournament at Sea Mountain Golf Course on June 13. This was our first all in-person event in over a year, and we lucked out with perfect weather! We are grateful for all of the sponsors and golfers for supporting the Chamber. A special shoutout to our tournament sponsor, SEARHC.
Thank you to Royal Caribbean Group for sponsoring the awards luncheon, to Our Town Catering for the great lunch, to First National Bank Alaska for sponsoring score cards, to Shee Atika Inc. and ALPS Federal Credit Union for sponsoring golf carts, and to AC Lakeside, Alaska Seaplanes, and White’s Pharmacy for sponsoring holes.
I want to thank all of the volunteers who took time out of their busy schedules to help us! Thank you to Karl Stedman for all of the pre-tournament prep work and putting up signs early in the morning, to Shauna Thornton and Loren Olsen for being hole-in-one spotters (we’ll get one next time), to TV Dan for capturing the event on film, and to the Sitka Sentinel for covering the tournament’s story.
This tournament would not be possible without the golf planning committee: Karl Potts, Loren Olsen and Karl Stedman. The team at Sea Mountain Golf Course was extremely welcoming and professional, and the course is looking beautiful as always! Thank you to Tom Walsh for getting the golfers set up with clubs and carts, and to Diane Anzivino for running the drink cart.
